Grandparent Rights
Grandparents can usually get visitation with their grandchildren if their parent has either passed away or is incarcerated. This is meant to keep contact with a side of the family that they grandchildren might not otherwise see.
Grandparents (and Step-Parents) can also get custody of their grandchildren if they are able to show that a lot of harm would come to the children and that it is in the children’s best interests to be with them.
